As Seen Through Crystal Eyes, Chapter 16

We ran quickly down the mountain path and into the bright city of Crescentia. The bright glow of the streetlights is blinding at first. I never imagined Crescentia was this lit up. I'd always seen the glow in the sky from it all the way in Stalaria. Though, it never gave the impression that the lights would reach this intensity. I imagined it was different if you resided here for more than a few hours, but just running through here made my eyes water.

"Things are a bit quiet here. I haven't seen a guard yet." Snow speaks for all of our worries.

"Aqua doesn't have many soldiers stationed here. Only five are required to be on patrol at a time. They likely guard the path to Valer over the one to Stalaria. It's significantly more dangerous in th…

As Seen Through Crystal Eyes, Chapter 15

About thirty minutes has passed and the mountains in the distance still seem incredibly far away. History books tell of when Stalaria's edge was no more than fifty yards away from Crescentia's mountain barrier. But over the years, it has drifted away from it, making the small fifty yards a good five miles of demon-infested forest. Leaving Stalaria alone is a good way to die, that's for sure.

"Aqua will likely send soldiers to find us by morning." Snow says, breaking our half-hour silence. No one had said a word since Sarah had told us we were fugitives. We'd been walking in silence, on-guard for any danger. We'd had the fear of Demonis put into us in the short time we had spent at the Academy. Lessons we wouldn't soon forget.

"Shouldn't we s…

As Seen Through Crystal Eyes, Chapter 14

I recognize the face above me very quickly. The same girl that I met the first day that put a bounty on my head. I couldn't remember if I was ever told her name, not that I'd remember it, anyway.

"Look alive, flash freeze. I'd hate for you to melt!" Really? If she kept this up, the puns would kill me before she did. "I'm going to enjoy this." She laughs menacingly, pulling a knife out of her boot. "What's with the surprised look, flash freeze? This is an anything goes type of game!" She laughs again, running the tip of the blade across my cheek. She doesn't see it coming, but I do. I see the familiar white shoe connect with her face, sending her flying away from me. With immediate danger gone, my adrenaline races slower, making me aware of …

As Seen Through Crystal Eyes, Chapter 13

I was immediately pushed out of the Headmistress' office. Tasked with busy work to keep me away from information that would be regarded as theoretical. Though I can't help but wonder what Seren Vasallo would have to do with a person who has been missing for over a decade. How would her theory make sense? I decided to silence my thoughts and just complete the job I was tasked with. I looked at the file that was handed to me to deliver and smiled. The Headmistress must have been anticipating something like this. I knew because she was sending me somewhere I wouldn't refuse to go. I turn down a familiar hall and smile at the door I'd entered only once in my brief life here at the Academy. With no warning, I swing the door open and frown at th…

As Seen Through Crystal Eyes, Chapter 12

"I can't say how sorry I am about the distance I've kept." Sarah sighs, pushing me to walk towards the area where Sheath's temple had fallen. "Aqua has kept her distance, I assume."

"Last I heard from her, she was locking the cloaks up tight and that was years ago." Nelia seems frustrated, but she perks up when she realizes there is more than one person connected to her. "Who is this?" It's weird. I can't physically see her, but my mind is filled with images of her in a bedroom. A man is with her, but he seems to be sleeping.

"Twila Florentina. She's an Academy student. An excellent one, I might add. Training her myself." Sarah smiles, patting me on the back.

"Florentina? As in-"

"That's the one. Samuel's pride and joy." I had forgotten what p…
